Fried ham and cheese sandwiches win our family’s hearts always. The bread is crisp with the melted cheese oozing inside is the highlight. Flavour-wise, it’ll definitely hook you up for more.
I used to have fried ham and cheese sandwiches after school in Hong Kong at a little café. The sandwiches filled up my empty stomach and entertained my taste bubs very well.
It’s pretty simple and easy to make ham and cheese sandwiches at home. All you need to do is to brush enough butter on the bread. Yes, you need enough butter. After pan-frying, the bread will turn golden and crispy.
For the fillings, put a piece of ham and as much cheese as you want. That’s it. The heat will melt the cheese inside and you’ll be intrigued to have a large bite once it’s cooked. It’s best served immediately.

Ingredients:
- 2 pieces bread
- 2 pieces cheddar cheese
- 1 piece ham
- butter, softened, to taste
Method :
- Trim the bread crust. Brush butter on one side of each piece. Keep both buttered sides inside in order to keep the cutting board clean.
- Place one cheese slice, ham and another slice of cheese.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches on the pan, with buttered side down. Put on another bread on top of the cheese, with buttered side up.
- Pan-fry the bread until the bottom turns golden brown. Carefully flip the whole sandwiches to the other side. Pan-fry the other side until it turns golden brown. The cheese inside is melted. Serve immediately.
Notes:
- I used cheddar cheese. You might use any cheese you like instead. The taste is equally good.
- You might use white bread, wheat bread or any bread you prefer.
That oozing out cheese looks so inviting! A great sandwich, Christine.
